Stimulation of human thyroid growth via the inhibitory guanine nucleotide binding (G) protein Gi: constitutive expression of the G-protein alpha subunit Gi(alpha-1) in autonomous adenoma

Abstract

The G proteins controlling the adenylyl cyclase in thyroid autonomous adenoma were investigated. The results showed that stimulation of thyroid growth in autonomous adenoma involves alterations in the alpha-1 subunit of the inhibitory G protein Gi. The alterations in this subunit of Gi leads to unregulated expression of the alpha subunit, which may be associated with autonomous growth of thyroid adenomas.
