Abstract
- The partial reduction of the xenon(II) salt XeF(super 1+)Sb2F11(super 1-) with antimony pentafluoride as the reaction medium generated the green product which has been identified as Xe2(super 1+)Sb2F11(super 1-).XeF(super 1+)Sb2F11(super 1-). This product was found to be long-lived at room temperature. Spectroscopic properties implied that the Xe2+ species is responsible for the ESR, UV-visible and Raman spectra. Moreover, antimony pentafluoride acts as the source of the Sb2F11(super 1-) anion associated with the Xe2+ anion.
