Abstract
- An in vitro system capable of inducing oligodendrocytes to express class II major histocompatibility (MHC) mRNA and surface antigens was developed. MHC expression was achieved by treating the oligodendrocytes with interferon-gamma in a medium containing the synthetic glucocorticoid, dexamethasone. This class II MHC expression in oligodendrocytes may provide a mechanism of cell-type-specific killing by class II-restricted T cells in human demyelinating diseases.
