Abstract

Operationsmanagement tools for the design of large-scale but manageable models are examined. These tools include product-flow process charts or workflow diagrams,Pareto analysis, automation and other analytical techniques for error-rate and run-time reduction. Workflow diagrams show all the materials and tasks involvedin the production of a product or a component. Analysis of such diagrams can lead to the reduction of errors through the minimization and formalization of coordination, automation of error-prone steps, and the use of automated analytical tools to check for common errors. Model running time may also be reduced through the automation of data links and scenario construction. Lastly,Pareto analysis can be used to study the model its value added component and its stability areas, where model reduction may be undertaken.
