Abstract
- An investigation was conducted to determine the roles of cytokines and nitric oxide in the destruction of islet beta-cells associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The results showed that cytokines inhibit insulin secretion by beta cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Nitric oxide appears to be the mediator of this cytokine-induced inhibition of insulin.
