Abstract

The origin and dynamics of sulfate salts in selected saline soils derived from marine and continental sediments are determined by using the isotopes of S and O. Results show that pyrite oxidation and hydrolysis of natrojarosite in marine and continental sediments are the dominant sources of sulfate salts. Lastly, oxygen isotope analysis is very useful and provides more information than sulfur isotope analysis.
