Abstract

A study based on the 1982 Canadian Urban Victimization Study determined that certain regular behavior patterns can increase the possibility of criminal victimization. These behavior patterns include consistently playing sports at a certain time, visiting a bar or the movies or going to regular meetings. Older and married people spend a decreased amount of time in risky settings while appropriate security measures can protect against property crime when the resident is absent. Men who spend considerable time in bars are more likely to be subjected to property crime.
