Abstract
- The thermally-induced transformation of retained austenite in carburized steels is studied. Experiments are conducted wherein heat-treated smooth fatigue specimens are subjected to axial and diametral strains using a uniaxial 89-kN ATS Long Term Fatigue Machine connected to a SoMat Model 1100 Test Control and Data Acquisition System. Results indicate that the transformation rate is linear with time and highly dependent on the hydrostaticstress.
