Abstract

The nuclear power industry serves as an excellent example of how an industry survives only because of federal subsidies. This trend has no end in sight thanks to the Comprehensive National Energy Policy Act of 1992. Despite nuclear power facility failures, dangers and the availability of research pointing to alternative energy resources and better ways to conserve power, the industry has managed to sustain government support since Pres Dwight Eisenhower proposed private ownership of nuclear power in 1954.
