Ecological problems in the CIS during the transitional period

The successor states of the former USSR are beset by enormous environmental problems mainly brought about by the Soviet authorities'disregard of the environment. From Russia to Kyrgyzstan, environmental damage in the form of massive pollution in the ecosystem poses a threat to the health and well-being of many individuals. These states are currently trying to repairthe damage decades of neglect has wrought, but no immediate relief is seen.
