Abstract

The application of the Lucas critique as a forward looking buffer stock model for the demand for broad money in the UK is tested. The test of superexogeneity reveals that the Lucas critique is not applicable even to broader monetary aggregates as suggested by some analysts. This was unexpected considering the constancy of the model conditional on observed prices, interest rate and wealth.
