Abstract

Parents with learning difficulties have much the same experiences during parenthood and childrearing as do ordinary families and learning difficulties do not disqualify them from having a good marriage, bringing up children well or having a normal family life. Most of the problems encountered by such families are due to poverty, inadequate housing, harassment, victimisation and insufficient support. Professionals are seen as a major cause of upset and trouble in the lives of parents with learning difficulties.
