Abstract
- The Shipbuilders Council of America protests against Italy's policy of subsidizing its shipbuilding industry. The organization appealed to the FMC to use its powers under Section 19 of the 1984 Shipping Act to revoke tariffs of foreign shipping lines in retaliation for unfair practices. Shipbuilders claim the foreign subsidies adversely affect their business by denying them access in the cruise-ship market.<br />Shipyards discover a weapon in search for protection from foreign subsidies.
