Abstract

Underpotential deposition (UPD) of Ag on Au(111) is studied with two different electrolytes such as aqueous 0.1 M H(sub 2)SO(sub 4), solution in comparison with the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride BMICI plus AlCl(sub 3). Cyclic and linear sweep voltammetry in combination with situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is used to investigate the distinct behavior of 2D phase formation at both interfaces.
