Abstract

A company can help determine whether it should convert its private line network to a public frame relay service on the basis of three factors. These factors are the network's geographic dispersion, the connectivity requirements and the characteristics of network traffic. Public frame relay service had only 189 corporate customers at the end of 1992. Part of the reason for this was the confusion over pricing. However, customers' increased awareness of the economic drivers of frame relay will lead over 2,400 firms to subscribe by 1996.<br />Private line networks may qualify for frame relay if they meet three rules of thumb.
