Abstract
- An analysis of the behavior of residual soils shows that effective cohesion may be the best explanation for red clay soil stability, despite other factors such as root reinforcement, undisturbed residual clay, bonding and other factors. Compaction behavior of soils should be considered along with other factors depending on the soil type or construction project involved. While lateral and horizontal stress factors are important, soil stress history is not always significant. The liquidity index is an effective parameter in the study of certain soil types, however, the normalized and undisturbed void ratios may be more significant for varied soil types.
