Abstract: Pulse radiolysis is used to study the kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of oxymyoblobin (MbFeO2) with NO2. The hemeproteins can be instrumental in detoxifying NO2 and hence in pre-empting deleterious processes, such as nitration of proteins.
