Abstract
- Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the petroleum industry has declined 50%-70% from its 1988 peak. Major reasons for the decline include the departure of major companies from the M&A market, environmental cost concerns, low capital availability and volatility of oil prices. Future M&A trends in the petroleum industry are also discussed.<br />Current trends in the oil and gas merger and acquisition (M&A) marketplace suggest that business as usual isn't usual anymore.
