Abstract

Child Poverty Action Group opposes the reduction or abolition of unemployment benefit. The rate is not generous or universally applied. The self-employed are ineligible and married women often fail to qualify. The press has reported a possible reduction of benefit to six months. Restricting entitlement and tightening conditions for receipt of benefit would cause economic hardship.
