Abstract

Lending officers need to evaluate income tax data particularly disclosures in determining whether a customer is creditworthy. The effect of differences between book or nominal income and tax-return or real income on the borrower's cash flow, which affects the ability to repay the loan, should play a decisive role in credit evaluation. Several real-world examples are presented.
