Abstract

A description on the way powers under the New South Wales (NSW) Public Health Act can be used to detain non-complaint patients with tuberculosis is presented. These powers can also be used to detain patients with typhoid fever, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), HIV and AIDS if there is a demonstrable threat to the community.
