Abstract
- In 1982, California instituted laws designed to severely sanction persons convicted of drunk driving. Prior research has indicated that these laws have had a negative impact on California's courts and jails. Authors Patrick Kinkade, Matthew C. Leone, and Thomas Wacker report on research into the effects the tough DUI laws have had on probation in California and the differing experiences of specific counties.
