Abstract: Sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements are conducted on the ionic liquid/platinum electrode system. The SFG spectra indicate that the cation changes orientation as the electrode potential is changed within the double-layer region.
