Abstract

Southern Natural Gas Co (SNG) has completed its 60-mile pipe line, the deepest large-diameter pipe line in the Gulf of Mexico, from Exxon Company USA's Alabaster platform in Mississippi Canyon to a coast site near Venice, LA. A description is presented of planning steps in designing the pipe line, which lies in water from 460 ft to over 1,200 ft deep. Guillot-Vogt Associates Inc, Hudson Engineering Corp and Materials & Welding Technology Inc worked with SNG on the project.<br />Gas began flowing this spring in the deepest underwater, large-diameter pipeline in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
