Formation and structure of self-assembled monolayers of alkanethiolates on palladium

The adsorption of n-alkanethiols onto polycrytalline thin films of palladium containing a strong (111) texture produces well-organized, self-assembled monolayers. The data presented indicates that a metastable, palladium-sulfide interphase is generated during the formation of a SAM of alkanethiolates on the surface of palladium, and that the structure of the monolayer is most similar to that found on silver.
