Abstract

The effect of oxygen exposure onto Cr-based seedlayer with a different affinity for oxygen in CoCr(sub 24)Pt(sub 12)B(sub 4)/CrMo(sub 15) longitudinal media is investigated. It was seen that the utilization of a very thin Cr-based seedlayer with a high melting point, a high affinity for oxygen forms an island-like structure and effectively reduces the media grain size and improves the media signal-to-noise ratio.
