N2 chemisorption on stepped Pt surfaces by 2-D and 1-D precursor behavior

Abstract

The experiment shows that N2 chemisorbs at 88K on two stepped platinum surfaces, Pt(335) and Pt(779), with exclusive occupancy of step sites. An irreversible conversion from 2-D and 1-D precursor motion occurs as terrace-bound precursors irreversibly convert to step-bound precursors.
