Abstract

Thermolysis of the Pt(IV) alkyl hydride complex K(super 3)-Tp(super Me)2-Pt(super IV)(CH(sub 3))(sub 2)(H) leads to reductive elimination of methane. A lower energy C-H bond forming and cleaving process scrambles hydrogen atoms between the hydride and methyl positions of K(super 3)-Tp(super Me)2-Pt(super IV)(CH(sub 3))(sub 2)(H).
