Acute myocardial infarction complicating the clinical course of dilated cardiomyopathy in childhood

Abstract
- An acute myocardial infraction occurred in a 6-year-old child with dilated cardiomyopathy. This caused severe hemodynamic deterioration that led to a fatal outcome. Autopsy revealed diffuse myocardial atrophy without cell infiltrate, normal epicardial coronary arteries, and a massive healed anteroapical infraction. Coronary embolism or spasm could be ruled out as the cause of the infraction.<br />Acute myocardial infarction is extremely rare in children.[1,2] Even though acute myocardial infarction may be detected in association with dilated cardiomyopathy in adults, this association has never been previously proved [...]
