Ultrafast laser induced molecular alignment and deformation: Experimental evidence from neutral molecules and from fragment ions

A study about the behavior of polyatomic molecules in the presence of strong off-resonance ultrashort laser fields is presented. The electric field can induce alignment and bending in polyatomic molecules and these effects can take place in the absence of ionization.
