Abstract: Absorption and fluorescence emission properties of cyanine-oxonol mixed dyes, that is, salts formed by a cationic cyanine with an anionic oxonol as counterion, are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The investigation probes the effects of ion pairing occurring in low-polarity solvents.
