Bankers in Midwest expect merger flurry, survey finds

Abstract

Midwest bankers expect banks in their area to continue their consolidation trend during 1992, according to a survey by consulting firm Towers Perrin. Out of 76 respondents, 67% reported being involved in an acquisition during 1991, and 80% expect to be involved in another during 1992. However, bank mergers in the Midwest currently account for only 6% of the $31 billion in deals announced during the 2nd qtr 1992, compared to 22% of the $363.3 billion in deals since the beginning of 1991.<br />CHICAGO - Bankers in the Midwest expect bank acquisitions in their region to remain rampant, according to a survey by Towers Perrin, the consulting firm.
