Crystal structure of 4-chlorobenzoate: CoA ligase/synthetase in the unliganded and aryl substrate-bound states

The three-dimensional structure of the bacterial enzyme 4-chlorobenzoyl-CoA ligase (CBAL), both unliganded and bound to its substrate 4-chlorobenzoate (4CBA) is reported. Insights into the structure/function relationships of this family of enzymes are provided by analysis of the enzyme active site and overall confirmation in relation to previously determined structures.
