Abstract: The valence band (VB) electronic structure of carbon nitride is reviewed, and the results obtained from carbon nitride films prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) are presented. The synthesis of carbon nitride films by nitrogen-ion beam-assisted PLD and reactive PLD in nitrogen atmosphere is described.
