Abstract

Former International Services Intelligence director Lieutenant General Hameed Gul's retirement from the military establishment concurs with the evolving Pakistani policies concerning Afghanistan. In accordance with this new initiative, Pakistan has decided to halt its supply of arms to Afghan guerillas. A central point to this change in Pakistani foreign relations is the government's announcement of support for a United Nations (UN) peace plan that will call all Afghans to a consultative meeting. The government further stated that it will respect any decision reached at the UN-convened assembly.
