Abstract

A study is conducted to examine whether President George W. Bush's 64% job approval rating is a good indicator to help him successfully defeat the Democratic candidate in the presidential elections. Results show that presidential job approval data are essential in understanding an incumbent's chances of winning re-election but only after the time frame has moved well into the election year.
