A new, convenient synthesis of the linear phosphazene salt [Cl3P=N=PCL3] Cl: preparation of higher linear homologues [Cl3P= N-(PCL2= N)(sub x)=PCl3] Cl (x =1-3) and the 16-membered macro cycle [NCCl(NPCl2)(sub 3)](sub 2)

An improved preparation of [Cl3P=N=PCl3]-Cal has been achieved, and the construction of novel phosphazene chains and macrocycles from this versatile reagent is described. Studies showing the construction of new macrocycles from the linear phosphazene chains are presented.
