The challenge of establishing a national service delivery program for older blind persons

Older blind persons have gotten short shrift in receiving needed services in this country. The article outlines the challenges and barriers to establishing a comprehensive service delivery system for this population. Issues such as funding, personnel shortages, lack of trained staff, negative attitudes on the part of staff, and accessibility are discussed. Several models of on-going service delivery are presented along with specific suggestions for implementation of these models nationwide.
