Familial resemblance for muscle phenotypes in the HERITAGE family study

Research reveals familial aggregation of energy metabolism enzyme activities in the skeletal muscle both in the sedentary state and in response to regular exercise. Data show familial resemblance for Type I fiber area and familial aggregation for energy metabolism enzyme in the sedentary state, while with regard to training response familial aggregation is observed only for enzyme activities.
