Abstract

In this monograph, the works of twelve significant writers, six Russian (Abbot Daniil, Ioann Lukyanov, Abraham Norov, N. V. Gogol, Ivan Bunin, and Andrei Bely) and six Czech ones (Martin Kabátník, Jan Hasištejnský, Oldřich Prefát, Václav Vratislav, Kryštof Harant, and Jan Neruda) have been analysed and presented in a wider European context. The comparison of the opposite sides of the church schism has discovered not only differences, but also common features of Russian and Czech pilgrimages and their goals. Much attention is paid to the comparison of myths and reality of the pilgrimages and to illustrations used by some authors (Prefát, Norov) and made by one of them (Harant). The book is supplemented by rich visual materials.
