Abstract
- RNs make care coordination possible. In a study funded by the Robert Wood Foundation to measure how nurses coordinate care, the research team found that nurses spend an extensive amount of time engaged in a wide range of coordination activities however when asked whether they thought anyone knows what they do to coordinate care, almost all of them said ‘no'. This groundbreaking guide articulates the role of nurses and sets the national context for quality improvement. It illustrates the diverse ways nurses are leading change and examines the role of care coordination in achieving quality and safety goals as well as controlling health care costs.
