Abstract

The book Clinical Manual of OTOLARYNGOLOGY describes the most common and important diseases in otolaryngology—head and neck surgery. The physical examination involved in otolaryngology is discussed. The book discusses some common disorders of the ear, nose and throat. Selected case presentations and differential diagnoses are presented to help unite pertinent information. Topics like neck masses, head and neck cancer, facial plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery are covered. Several common cosmetic surgical procedures are discussed. They include otoplasty, rhinoplasty, surgery for cleft lip and cleft palate deformity, facial plastic surgery (face lift, blepharoplasty and a brow lift), liposuction, hair transplants, and other reconstructive surgeries. The physician should take a psychosocial history of the patient to clearly understand and rule out effective treatment procedures. A broad and important field of otolaryngology, sleep medicine is also dealt. The book concludes with a chapter giving some guidelines for the physicians and health care providers about the spread of infections (hepatitis and HIV/AIDS) from patients in the clinic and the operating room.
