Abstract
- The phenomenon of propaganda as an expression of collective persuasion is joined to the very birth of war clashes, turning into an instrument as effective as the own weapons. After its employment during World War I, the Spanish civil war will be its main field of experimentation. For this, all the available resources were used: books, leaflets, pamphlets, declarations to the press, radio communicates, documentary emission, posters, drawings and paintings. The occupation of the public space might be added: meetings, troop parades and burials of remarkable soldiers. The labelling of the streets, with names adapted to the new reality, turned also into direct appeals to the civil conscience. The same thing can be said of the air-raid shelters turned into mute symbols of the pro-Franco aggressions.
