Abstract

Systematic reviews are a distinct research methodology focusing on systematically identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing all available studies. Since 2022, the Charité Medical Library has been offering a new course series that teaches the fundamental steps of conducting a systematic review. The structure of the course series follows the methodological steps undertaken when conducting a systematic review: 1) review types and research questions, 2) systematic literature search, 3) search and literature management, 4) protocol development, 5) assessment of methodological study quality, 6) data extraction and data analysis, 7) data synthesis, 8) review evaluation. This article provides an overview of the course content and learning objectives. Challenges that arose in the first run of the eight-part course series are explained and possible solutions are presented.
