La huelga 'Grande' del carbón en Lota, Coronel y Curanilahue de 1920

La gran huelga minera en Chile, protagonizada por trabajadores de Lota, Coronel y Curanilahue a inicios del siglo XX, fue uno de los hitos más importantes para el proceso de sindicalización del país. El Estado, los empresarios, los partidos políticos y las fuerzas armadas, sumado a los propios mineros, tuvieron roles sociales y políticos determinantes, que se caracterizan en este trabajo. Por otra parte, se busca analizar en profundidad a la “gran huelga”, un hecho histórico relevante porque fue una de las primeras huelgas obreras de grandes dimensiones que se resolvió por la vía legal y no terminando en una masacre. La historiografía obrera chilena se ha centrado extensamente en el movimiento de los trabajadores del salitre olvidando (salvo honrosas excepciones) los procesos del sur de Chile. Government, employers, political parties, armed forces and miners whose social and political roles were determinant for the process, and are characterized in this paper. Moreover, the study attempts to prove exhaustively that the "Great Strike" was a significant historical event because it was one of the first large labor strikes that was resolved by legal means and not ending in a slaughter. Chilean historiography of the labor movement has focused extensively on the activities of nitrate workers, ignoring (with few exceptions) the processes southern Chile.
