Abstract

The recent reappraisal by Eneida Maria de Souza of Mário de Andrade’s research travels, in the context of modernism, allows for a critical counterpoint with the current dissemination of art from peripheral spaces: indigenous and afro-descendant. The evaluation of Mário’s ideas and literary production, presented as a mediator between the richness of popular culture and the erudite vanguard, contributes to the proper reception of texts, images, and performances by new participants in the Brazilian artistic scene.
