Abstract

Open to competitionsince 1992 by Europeanregulations, the island cabotage highlights the problems of insularity and periphericitywithin the EU. The principle of national solidarityexpressed by a ferry service monopolyisreplaced, with a lot of paradoxes, by a strongcommitment of European territorial cohesion, pledging to boostisland services whilebreaking down maritime national barriers. In Corsica, the application of thisregulation has resulted in a robust reconstruction of the maritime services. It revived a set of geopoliticalswaybased on the geohistorical position of an islandbetween the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean areas. .It alsoled to competitionbetweenseaport sites on the island as well on French and Italian main lands.
