Abstract

What type of conductor has the renewal of early music encountered and produced? What are the similarities and differences between the fonctions of the conductor of an ensemble working with historical instruments and that of a « classical » conductor? In short, what is the conducting of ensemble music earlier than the advent of the romantic orchestra made of? In order to shed some light on the subject, I interviewed Gaëtan Naulleau, musical critic, and Nicolas Bartholomée, sound engineer, who are both apt to bring an informed and critical perspective on the conducting practices at stake here.
