Abstract
- Over the years, the extreme temperatures had a severe impact on ecosystems and human societies, resulting in negative consequences for agriculture, biodiversity, water supply, industries, tourism, transportation, etc. and generating economic losses. However the amount of the economic losses caused by such extreme events and their impact on European economic sectors cannot be exactly quantified, given the multitude of factors that contribute to the events. The purpose of this article is to highlight the effects of climate change in general, and particularly of extreme temperatures – as they are identified in the academic literature related to climate change – on European economic sectors and government policies.
