Abstract

Because of their relative autonomy from the cultural industry, German films of the Twenties are an interesting field to try an analysis on the psychologic attitudes of a society or an age. The themes of films from this era will be examined in this essay: the frequent representation of tragic stories, the role of repression, wich the film has, the construction of monumental atmospheres. The cardinal skill of this work is in facts to show how films affected everyone´s aesthetic reception at those time, as it liquidates every association with the past and prepares an apperception, that has been useful for authoritarian systems.
